Olivia Parker

Inspiring Photographer

Olivia Parker (1943-present) is an American photographer most famous for capturing still life photography. Much of her work shows an interest in abstract still life scenes and subjects while showing a perplexing perspective on composition. Her work ranges from scenes captured in the United States and abroad, her later work is composed of mainly digital works that allowed more flexibility in her still life scenes.

One of her most interesting collections of photographs that I am drawn to is her portfolio Vanishing in Plain Sight. The photographs all act as an interpretation of what Olivia Parker felt that her husband who has Alzheimer's was going through. I couldn't say that there is one particular photograph that I favor but I feel that all the photographs act as part of a larger entity that I thought was interesting to observe.

There is a lot of emotion and perhaps curiosity shown through this particular collection. Parker uses blurring motions, reflections, shadows, and closeup captures to create interesting compositions that contribute to her interpretation of watching someone change due to Alzheimer's disease.
